Spiritual Guidance – Spiritual Conversations Within

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

To the spiritual seeker;

Spirituality has been an invisible force of long standing. And the knowledge of spirituality goes far back in history of mankind, for since humans developed systems of writing be it on stones or thin paper it has passed its knowledge of its importance (spirituality) to the successive generations to understand.

We are all born with the breath of life to find our purpose in this life we all live in. Almost all races on the face of this beautiful planet believe in higher powers, although name it different.

Whenever we study our past history as far as primitive civilizations, we undoubtedly find it to be spiritual in nature. Human beings spiritual life can be traced back to between 500 000 to 100 000 years before our time, this is a time which anthropologists generally refer as (Lower Paleolithic). Where the Archaeologists have found evidence that, our ancestors have buried their dead. And that is the first evidence as far as proof of spiritual life of humans is concerned. And we can only use our imagination as for the proof of (earlier records) still to be discovered.

We humans are genetically close match to our parents. When we see a young child holding the hands of his or her parents we generally see resemblance of parents in the features of its parents. With this we can surely say some genetic make up of our parents are passed down to the child. In eastern spirituality this is called the essence. In essence of our history we will all agree that our population expands, when about 2000 thousand years ago our human population was 300 million and now it’s over seven billion. When we look upon this fact, then we can draw the fact that we are all related in one way or another. So if we were to imagine a time 500 000 years ago the number of human population was even smaller than what it was 2000 years ago. This is a fact for our human race, so in essence our spiritual nature dates back to the earliest known human races.

To understand this and its importance on our well being, we just need to recognize the fact, which all races on the face of earth believe in spirituality in one shape or form. From Europeans to Asians, Native Americans to Australian Aboriginals to the smallest tribes of Africa. We all believe rather evolve around a belief that we belong to much more than what we already see with our human eyes, and spirituality reaches to every part of our planet.

You might agree that we have advanced so much on many fronts; surely this is the case from discovering fire to nuclear technology, from watching a butterfly dance to the rhythm of life to astronauts actually watching life on earth from space.

When we visit the remote parts of the World, where natives still trying to live their lives accordingly to their ancestral spiritual teaching, they tell us the importance of oneness and the respect to nature we each should possess. How inseparable we are from nature itself. As our livelihood depend on it.

If we pause to look back at the growth of the tree of life and the diverse importance of spirituality from its branches, it seems like we are the everlasting fruits of spiritual tree of our ancestors. And just like a tree needing water and light, we too need to be spiritually compassionate towards life and all in it, thus this becomes the water that our spirits need, also there is a need to believe in light, we all call higher being. Even scientists and religious teachers will agree on this point; it is because of reflection of light we are able to see. Scientists will say using their theories that the light is there because of a Big Bang, and the Spiritual priest might say it is there because of holy light holy spirit. Neither of these is right or wrong, yet the truth of its origin, (spiritual star shining bright in the spiritual skies) is within us all, to see the truth. And it does shine bright when we calm the oceans in our hearts through the act of oneness, compassion and many other good morals.

Whoever is on the top of the mountain can see the light of sunrise sooner than those who live in the meadows. So it happens with those who achieve spiritual heights. They can see heavenly light earlier than those who are caught up in material. But the time will come when the light will shine so high in the sky that everybody will see it. We are all children of the same spiritual seed, thus it would be unnatural not to love our family members. After all we are one family, called human Beings.

7 Ways to Stay Spiritually Balanced

Monday, September 20th, 2010

When we find spirituality, or it finds us, the experience feels surreal. We begin to feel like we’re walking on a tightrope between two different worlds. We become ungrounded and loose touch with the physical side of life. When our spiritual mission becomes clear, it is even truer. Learning to breathe and to walk between these two experiences until they merge can be a tough balancing act. It’s easy to choose and get lost in the new experience because it feels so good and so right. Regular aspects in the physical world seem less important and get set aside, many times incomplete.
This tightrope doesn’t have the same thinness as the rope we think of in the circus. A spiritual path is actually on the ground and wider even though it feels like walking on air at times. If you step to one side, you engulf yourself totally in the awe of spirituality. The other, the physical world. And because of its alluring influence, it is easy to understand why we prefer to be there.
There are ways to merge the two experiences. Here are seven techniques to help balance the tightrope:
1. Maintain or start new physical activities. Go running, play tennis, take a walk, or workout. Allow love to pour into the tennis racket. This is a neat experience if you haven’t tried it before. Allow the physical activity to merge with a spiritual part. Walk with a loving heart, say your favorite poem or prayer, and feel it in each step. Do the same when making beds, running errands, standing at the copy machine, taking the kids to soccer, or washing the car. This chases the doubt away and invites high attraction vibrations in.
2. Caring for others. Take care of your family, yourself, pets, and others in your life. Allow them the amount of space they need to learn, falter (yes, I said falter), and grow. Place yourself on that list, so, set time, and space aside for you as well.
3. Keep financially stable. It is easy to say, “Do what we love and the money will follow.” Lean too much on the spiritual side and you stop taking action and the money dries up. This is like wishing to win the lottery without buying a ticket. One difference with balance the two — the right people show up at the right time. People sometimes think that when you find spirituality, the money just finds you. This can’t be furthest from the truth. It means that you will find it easier to attract what you need if you continue to take action. If this is a learning and growth period, it takes massive action — action for learning and action for the regular action. As hard as this one is to balance and maintain, nevertheless it is feasible, millions of people do so daily.
4. Spend more time planning and setting goals. Manifesting what we want still requires action and planning. Spirituality can nestle us so warmly and lovingly it’s easy to set the needed action aside. The level of balance is in the amount of flexibility you allow in the action plan. Complete each action with total openness of all that is possible for what follows. Ask and allow the universe to send easier, faster steps. And be open to see then when they arrive. Ask, trust, and allow the universe’s infinite wisdom to send you the answers. They are usually better than anything we usually arrive at ourselves. The tightrope is to balance trust with flexibility and space for expanded freedom and results.
5. Keep on giving. Spirituality is a gift that needs to flow. It can only continue to do so if people give. There are many ways to give and the method you choose will be the right one.

6. Allow room for real people and relationships. Other people ground us and connect us to the physical world. Yet, they must still allow us to evolve. People are another form of giving and receiving — two necessary parts for good ground maintenance.
7. Receiving remuneration is a gift. Accept it as if it came from the universe asking you to continue the flow. When we receive, water continues to flow into our cup and allows our mission to continue its evolution. Asking for compensation allows both parties to continue the flow. When we shift our perspective and see the need for flow, additional funds to appear.
Enjoy spirituality in balance with both feet on the ground!

Making the World a Better Place One Single Thread at a Time

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Jesus Christ did not always answer a question about life with a religious answer. When they asked him big questions about kingdoms and religions he often pointed them to smaller and more approachable matters like helping one individual at a time. In fact Christ was constantly steering his disciples away from big earth shaking type questions. He pointed them back to the least common denominators such as love, kindness and faithfulness over the smallest responsibilities. He was less concerned with the macrocosmic than the microcosmic solutions to problems in our world.

Here are a couple of examples that show how Christ called for people to re-focus on the smaller everyday matters of life. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Mt 10; 42 another example would be, He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much…Lu16; 10.

Anyone who has ever seen an authentic Chinese tapestry has stood in awe of the sprawling colors and designs that spread out to make a picture that dazzles the senses. A few people may take the time to get up close to the tapestry and view some of the millions of tiny stitches that go into creating the whole picture. The tapestry is more than the sum of its parts but never less than each and every single stitch.

Every person is capable of making at least one stitch with their lives. In America and other parts of our world today people who have succeeded in life are beginning to examine other areas to contribute something of value. People who have made their fortunes and have everything they have ever desired are now looking for something else to fulfill them. In almost every case the answer is being found in something outside of themselves and their own private lives and affairs. Many people are now becoming volunteers, campaigners or are joining churches and groups that contribute to individuals or communities. Giving contributions of millions of dollars is giving way to giving contributions of themselves and their time, usually to one person at a time or small groups of people less fortunate than others.

Even men notice when a small deed is performed in a timely fashion. Howard Hughes, the worlds most noted billionaire, searched an entire western community to find one man who had given him a mere twenty five cents as Hughes traveled through the region without money or means. The man was rewarded by Hughes by being included in his final will with a gift that reportedly was in the millions of dollars. If men notice such deeds then don’t worry Providence is keeping the perfect record.

It is the fine almost golden threads that make up life’s expansive tapestry. Often the good done by these golden threads is just a few well timed and well placed words of kindness. Yet, there are many who say they don’t know how they could possibly know what to say, or how to say something to help others. It is probably more a matter of instinct than of intelligence. The longest diary in the world, four million words, is said to belong to the late Arthur C Benson; 24, April 1862 -17 June 1925 poet and associate of England’s College of Cambridge University. Known as a man of many words, Mr. Benson was best known for his admonition for using the fewest words when addressing human suffering or sorrow. He was a strong proponent of trusting the gut when it came to finding the right words for the right moment. He said, “I don’t think some decisions are made by the reasoning faculties, but by some instinct. One knows what one can do and what one cannot do, when the time arrives.”

Sometimes not even words may be required to lend a helping hand. Sharing other peoples feelings silently can be useful. This is the essence of empathy, which is feeling along with another so they are attended or not so alone in their grief, calamity or sorrow. A New Orleans man once told me a story about one of his friends who had suddenly lost his beloved wife of many years. He arrived at hospital moments after his friend got the news that his wife had passed away. He found his friend leaning against the waiting room wall and convulsing and weeping with overwhelming sorrow. Not knowing either what to do or say he instinctively responded by leaning on the same wall and crying along with his friend. Weeks later he met with his friend again and the first words he heard were, “Thank you for being there for me you will never know how much you helped me.”

I had to take a short ride to town between writing this paragraph and the one before it. Sauntering back down the country road to the house I pondered what I would use as an example of a small thread of kindness. Suddenly I was waved down by a woman who seemed to be in some kind of distress. Across the road I noticed a very young man struggling to jack up his car and change a flat tire. She asked if I had a four way wrench because the one the young man, her son, was using didn’t fit. I brought him my four way wrench and a hydraulic jack I was carrying in my car and mother and son were back on the road in a matter of minutes.

Naturally I thought this is an example of the small threads I was trying to write about. I dismissed it out of hand because, I reasoned, it is too insignificant. It was the word insignificant that caught my attention. Yes, it was no big deal but it was after all the very kind of small thing that makes up the big picture.

Of the many genres of music that I love one is old fashioned Appalachian mountain bluegrass. After helping that young men and his mother, the chorus of one of my favorite bluegrass gospel songs entitled “By the Side of the Road” popped into my head. Let me pop it out here for you to roll around in your head. I think it is what could help the world to be a better place in a very real and practical way.

I’d rather live, by the side of the road
And try to point souls, to the blest abode
Than to be a king, or a millionaire
And live in a mansion, in bright array
I’d rather do, a neighborly deed
For a traveler here, or a friend in need
I’d rather live, by the side of the road
And help some pilgrim along life’s way
